The ultimate zesty and refreshing sauce, this green goddess dressing recipe will become a quick favorite to top onto salads, bowls or even used as a dip! Easily customizable and made with just a few simple ingredients.
It dawned on me the other day as I was whipping up yet another bowl recipe that I’ve never shared my classic green goddess dressing recipe. This sauce is pretty much second nature to me. I just estimate and throw everything in the blender (or food processor) and hope for the best. Without fail this green goddess dressing recipe always seems to work out.
The Best Green Goddess Dressing Recipe!
What I love most about this recipe is how customizable it is. I oftentimes make it when I notice some of my herbs are on their way out. I toss them in the blender with the rest of the ingredients and BAM it gives them new life!
This green goddess recipe is also super versatile and can be eaten on just about everything, but more on that below. For now let’s look at the ingredients in this green goddess dressing recipe.
Ingredients to Make Green Goddess Dressing:
- Plain greek yogurt – I prefer greek but you can use any plain yogurt
- Herbs of choice – cilantro, basil, mint, parsley, tarragon, chives, green onions, dill etc…
- Garlic – use fresh garlic! It tastes so much better.
- Salt and black pepper
- Jalapeno – optional but I love the spicy kick!
My personal favorite combination is cilantro, basil and dill but honestly any combination will do. Use whatever you have on hand!
So many other versions of this recipe use extra ingredients like lemon juice, anchovy paste, mayonnaise/mayo or olive oil but honestly none of them are necessary. The tanginess from the greek yogurt is plenty and the herbs add so much flavor!
How to Make Green Goddess Dressing:
This recipe is SO simple. All you need are the ingredients above and a blender or food processor.
I love my Vitamix but any old blender or food processor will do. Just throw everything into the blender or bowl of a food processor and blend until smooth. Don’t worry if it doesn’t get completely smooth. Some bits of herbs still make for a delicious recipe.
Can You Make It Vegan?
Yes! You can of course use a plant-based yogurt but my preference for vegan green goddess dressing is to replace with avocado. Your recipe will be as follows:
- 1 large avocado
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup herbs of choice
- 1 garlic clove
- salt and pepper
- 1/2 jalapeno
You’ll follow the same instructions as below and blend everything together in your high speed blender. The avocado adds the creaminess and while it isn’t as tangy as the greek yogurt, it’s still delicious!
How to Serve Green Goddess Dressing
There are so many ways to eat this green goddess dressing recipe but here are a few examples:
- As a dip – perfect for a veggie platter
- As a salad dressing – whatever veggies you’ve got on hand, throw them together and toss with this green goddess salad dressing
